President Report 9 Sept
It was a very professional and different speaker that Jim produced this week. There were lots of little gems amongst a fast moving presentation and while not trying to steal Jims thunder I found a couple of links to some of Julians interests.
Thank you to the volunteers to help out Foodshare again at holiday time. I will co-ordinate with them as we get closer to the time. We will need about 6 people once a week to meet the need.
The market committee agreed with my suggestion to get on the front foot and approach the City in regards to Australia Day and what planning needs to be done to make it Covid safe. Bendigo Rotary has taken the decision to cancel Carols this year which is very disappointing for them.
So far the food parcels we distributed were found to not be suitable for Foodshare but seeking feedback from Bendigo Community Health.
We will organize a Club forum for 30 Sept so if you have a topic you would like discussed let myself or one of the Directors know and we can put it on the agenda.

Joke of the week:   The Perfect Wife
An extraordinarily handsome man decided he had the God- given responsibility to marry the perfect woman so they could produce children beyond comparison.
With that as his mission he began searching for the perfect woman. After a diligent, but fruitless, search up and down the east coast, he started to head west. Shortly thereafter he met a farmer who had three stunning, gorgeous daughters that positively took his breath away. So he explained his mission to the farmer, asking for permission to marry one of them.
The farmer simply replied, "They're all lookin' to get married, so you came to the right place. Look them over and select the one you want."
The man dated the first daughter. The next day the farmer asked for the man's opinion.
"Well" said the man, " She's just a weeeeee bit, not that you can hardly notice, but pigeon-toed."
The farmer nodded and suggested the man date one of the other girls; so the man went out with the second daughter.
The next day, the farmer again asked how things went.
"Well," the man replied, "She's just a weeeee bit, not that you can hardly tell, cross-eyed."
The farmer nodded and suggested he date the third girl to see if things might be better. So he did.
The next morning the man rushed in exclaiming, "She's perfect, just perfect! She's the one I want to marry!" So they were wed right away.
Months later the baby was born. When the man visited nursery he was horrified: the baby was the ugliest, most pathetic human you can imagine. He rushed to his father-in- law asking how such a thing could happen considering the parents.
"Well," explained the farmer, "She was just a weeeee bit, not that you could hardly tell, pregnant when you met her."

Quote of the Week
I liked Julians advice to download a podcast and go for a walk.
Expand your mind and shrink your waistline”

Guest Speaker
The guest speaker for the meeting was Julian Mather. Julian shared his experiences and learned wisdom as a cameraman, army sniper and magician.

It was fascinating to hear of his secret adventure to photograph the rare Wollemi Pine which was only discovered in 1994. He was able to quote instances which challenged some long standing assumptions about change. The impact of being authentic, making decisions and sticking to them all contribute to making the change process simpler and easier to manage. The idea of doing the ordinary things extraordinarily well is something within the control of all of us. We are most grateful to Julian for his most engaging and polished presentation and we thank him for the generous giving of his time to be our guest.
Please follow the links which Ted has provided for the full details of Julian's work including some ideas about the Footpath University.
Time to Write Your “Member Behind the Badge” profile
I don’t know about you, but I am missing the more personal side of meeting fellow Rotarians.
So, we are looking for people to write a little 250 word personal profile so we can publish one a week
in the Bulletin, to bring us all a bit closer again. Even if you’ve presented a Life history in the past there’ll
be new members who didn’t hear it, or things that have changed in your life. Below are some suggestions.
You don’t have to answer them all if you don’t want too. So while you’re reading this, jot down some notes and send them in to brucefraser8@bigpond.com

Tell us:
  • Where you were born, who your parents were and what work they did.
  • Where did you go to school and what subjects did you like best (and least).
  • What was your first job? (and your 2nd? 3rd? 4th?).
  • What events or who has had an influence on the type of person you are today.
  • Where did you meet the most important person/people in your life?
  • What’s your favourite holiday spot?
  • What are the passions that have stayed with you all your life?
  • Tell us the best joke you ever heard, or just look for one on YouTube. (attach a link)
Find an early picture of yourself and another more recent to include.

Guess who’s coming to Happy Hour
In these trying times of Covid lockdown/isolation we aren’t getting our normal socialisation fix either at our weekly Rotary meeting or at social functions.
To create a contribution to improving that situation we are going to hold a virtual happy hour on the Zoom platform.
By now you should have received an email from me calling for expressions of interest.
So how will this work you ask. Well for those members who remember the guess who is coming to dinner activities that we ran some years ago, this event is modelled along the same lines.  Once members have expressed an interest in participating, they will be divided into small groups of about eight people (Rotarians & partners) and assigned a host Rotarian. The host will be responsible for emailing their group of participants with a date/time for a happy hour get together on Zoom. The Host will setup and run the Zoom meeting. The general idea is to hold the Happy Hour from 5pm to 6pm on a day that suits the host and participants. The time isn’t set in concrete and can be changed if the host decides. Of course, it is a BYO drinks & nibbles (if required) occasion.
Rotarians are asked to express their interest in participating by emailing Stan Hendy at hendys@netcon.net.au or ask a question on 0490 026 841.
