President's Message

Graeme Lynas was our guest speaker this week and gave a forthright report on his visit to Timor Leste recently. He painted an accurate picture of the difficulties facing Educators in Maubisse.  As he described conditions on the ground during the wet season and cyclonic damage to buildings at the schools he visited,  we were able to perceive the immense difficulties faced by this very new nation.
The story he described was one step forward two steps back. The one thing that shone through was the spirit of the people. They will not give up. Education is so very important to them  and they will continue their studies under the trees if necessary.

Ray Carrington has received a most complimentary email from District Governor Elect  Bronwyn Stephens after meeting with the club on March 21st she was given the Royal Tour of Patti's knitting shed. She is so impressed she wants to see a presidential citation on the wall next time she visits. The paperwork will be forwarded ASAP.

Jokes

My brother was driving along the road the other day with ten penguins in the back seat. He was stopped by the police

who told him that he couldn’t drive around with ten penguins in the car and that he ought to take them to a zoo.

My brother agreed with the police officer and drove off. The following day, my brother was driving along the same road

still with ten penguins in the back and again. He got stopped by the same police officer who said, “I told you to take those penguins to the zoo.”

My brother replied, “I did. But today, I’m taking them to the cinema!”

During the wedding rehearsal, the groom approached the vicar with an unusual offer. “Look, I’ll give you $100,

if you’ll change the wedding vows. When you get to me and the part where I’m to promise to ‘love, honor and obey’ and ‘forsaking all others,

be faithful to her forever,’ I’d appreciate it if you’d just leave that part out.”

He passed the clergyman the cash and walked away satisfied.

The wedding day arrives, and the bride and groom have moved to that part of the ceremony where the vows are exchanged.

When it comes time for the groom’s vows, the vicar looks the young man in the eye and says,

“Will you promise to prostrate yourself before her, obey her every command and wish, serve her breakfast in bed every morning of your life

and swear eternally before God and your lovely wife that you will not ever even look at another woman, as long as you both shall live?”

The groom gulped and looked around, and said in a tiny voice, “Yes.”

The groom leaned toward the vicar and hissed, “I thought we had a deal.”

The vicar put the $100 into his hand and whispered back, “She made me a much better offer!”
