Co-Presidents Report
It was an excellent Zoom meeting today with no issues of logging-in for members and guests; quite professional (and a relief!!!).
We had 32 members attend, as well as three guests - ADG Ron Payne; guest speaker Sally Curtain, CEO of Bendigo Kangan Institute, and Mayor Margaret O’Rourke, who is also a board member of the Institute.
The meeting was more formal than our previous Zoom meetings to date, with our chairman for the occasion, Graeme Lynas, stepping in to help us get back on track.  He recited the Rotary “Four Way Test” to set the scene, prior to revealing some humorous and interesting facts of past events “on this day today”.
Due to our enforced isolation which continues due to the COVID-19 virus, our scheduled community events remain either on hold, or in some cases, cancelled.  However, work behind the scenes continues as articulated by our Board Directors in their reports.
Treasurer: Peter Elliot updated us on our financial situation with changes such as the RDU magazine costs. As from the 1st July’20 the price of our magazine will be $34.00 per member if sent “on line” with an extra $10.00 if a hard copy is requested. 
Also, Club Runner our club media platform is also under review, due to the fact that they have increased their charges, and the program does not seem to be supporting our club’s requirements. The extra charges being included for events management eg:  Easter markets.
Club Secretary: Geoff Michell is updating our Constitution and By Laws in line with the new District guidelines. Geoff will then circulate the draft and amended document to all Board Directors for review.
Youth Director: Cathie Miller has been having regular catch ups with the other club Youth Directors in Bendigo to ensure all schools that have previously been supported by the RC of Strathdale are now allocated to other clubs.  Our Club will soon pick up Kallianna and Marist College for future engagement.
 
Telephone Tree: - This initiative to maintain contact and engagement with members appears to be going well.  Adrian will continue to update the list as required, so for any changes or amendments please contact him on: adrian.schoo@flinders.edu.au; or 0414 816 928
President Elect: Ted Gretgrix has been attending PETS Training (President Elects Training) via Zoom meetings, with his last training session coming up on Sunday afternoon.  We hope he has a lot of patience as 3 hours on ZOOM would be quite challenging for me (Toni).
District Meetings
The last District Meeting was held on Wednesday evening at 6pm with DG Grant Hocking as chair.
The meeting was well-attended, with 57 participants logging in.  The guest speaker was Andrew Crisp, the Victorian Emergency Management Commissioner.  You will remember that Andrew was to be one of the speakers for our March District Conference which unfortunately had to be cancelled.
Three of our members, Allie Lyall, Maurice Woodburn and me represented our club at the meeting.
 
Guest Speaker
The guest speaker for the Club's meeting was Sally Curtin, the CEO of Bendigo Kangan Institute. It was a pleasure also to welcome Marg O'Rourke who is a board member of the Institute. Sally took up the position in October last year and brings a wealth of experience in the public sector to the role. Her work previously included roles in the Justice Department, the Anti Corruption Commission, the City of Casey and VicRoads. 
 
Sally has had a focus on integrating Vocational Education, skills assessment of migrants and online learning. This has positioned the TAFE well to respond to the current challenges of the pandemic. The TAFE works closely with Bendigo Health and has been able to draw on the state of the Art Kangan facility at Docklands to enhance the trade offerings at Charlston Road. Bendigo TAFE oversees the BTEC Campus in Myer Street and has campuses at Castlemaine and Echuca.
 
The City Campus is currently undertaking a revitalisation.
Sally is very pleased with the progress being made and is reassured that the project is in line with budget allocations. A feature of the courses for apprentices is the ongoing communication with employers. Employers are able to track coursework and match workplace tasks to enhance learning. Some TAFE courses are free and there are a range of student loans to assist students with the payment of fees.
 
TAFE is to be congratulated on its achievements in the the online delivery of 106 courses in such a short time. This has come with an attendance rate of 80%. We thanks Sally for her very engaging presentation and congratulate her on so many achievements in her short tenure as CEO.

The school community of St. Patrick's Brewarrina has sent through a note of appreciation for the funds the Club sent through earlier in the year. Please find a note for the bulletin.
Drought Relief
 
The school community of St. Patrick's, Brewarrina, has been enjoying fresh fruit this term as a result of the funding received from the Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst. Fresh fruit is in very short supply as a result of both the drought and the recent bush fires and beyond the means of most families. St. Patrick's has patronised both the Brewarrina Friendly Grocer and Riteway equally thus keeping the funds in the local community. The fruit has been a very popular part of the two "crunch and sip" sessions which are timetabled each day. These sessions energise the children and impact positively on learning and behaviour. The community sends a huge thank you for your very generous donation.
