President’s Report
This week’s meeting will be again held Via ZOOM

Hi to all, again we will conduct our meeting via Zoom again hopefully it will not be too long before our part of regional Victoria is released from lockdown.
Following on from last week from another great guest speaker, a few members have inquired about Peter’s book that he has made available to the public. Jim has ordered 20 books for club members and will distribute them when we have a meeting at the Tennis Centre Next.
On Saturday gone D.G. Dale Hoy reached out via zoom to all his Cluster Presidents with around 85% logging in. The major theme Dale has noticed in travels and conversations with other club within his district has being the recurring cancellation of major events with Rotary involvement which in turn effects fund raising. The message for the morning was to continue to have fun, good guest speakers, think activity not just donations i.e.  Tree planting, lightning Reef project.

Reminder to all members that Zone 8 (virtual) is on the 11th - 12th of September more information on District web site.

Speaking of activities next Sunday is a great opportunity for members to participate in a Tree Planting project at Huntly (see last week’s Bulletin for details) to celebrate National Tree Day. Currently 4 members and partners have confirmed at this stage. It would be great to see some more members on site doing our little bit to save the world. Obviously we will need to observe current Covid requirements. If interested, Stew will require numbers for registration this Wednesday.

Peter Mulqueen – Mulqueen Family Funerals

Peter is now 66 and says he has been involved in the family business as long as he can remember. The business commenced back in 1853 a family business currently up to the 6th generation of funeral directors. Peter is an accountant and is currently a partner in MGR accountants. Since 1999 he has specialised in accounting for the funeral industry and his services are in high demand across Australia. In 2010 he formed a partnership with Martin Tobin in an enterprise which focusses on selling funeral business, Peter has considerable expertise in valuing funeral businesses. He is also a member of Family Business Australia and in 2011 he attended their conference, and he heard a talk from Michael MacQueen, he spoke about how his father died suddenly. He started to go through his father’s belongings and found a notebook he had given his father a year before and he asked him to record his story. To his delight he had written down a series of stories and experiences, Michael was enthralled and captivated. This led to the development of a document called ‘Momento’, the idea is to get people to record their experiences and stories, so they can leave a legacy and share all aspects of a life. Peter adopted this and handed it out to his clients, it was a big document some 178 pages with 130 questions. Peter subsequently thought about developing a document specific to the funeral industry, he searched widely. As a result he has developed a document called ‘My Story’ which he developed with his brother Paul who has a background in Media. It provides an excellent starting point for reflecting on a life, it is divided into sections, childhood, friendships, schooling, romances, working life. There are a wide range of questions like ‘When did you get into the most trouble as a child and Why?’ What is the most mischievous prank you have pulled on a friend?
If you would like a copy of ‘My Story’, please let Jim Rolfe know and he can laisse with Peter.
R U OK? Day creates conversation
Next Thursday, 9 September, people are being encouraged to start meaningful conversations with
friends, family and loved ones with a simple but important question. ‘Are you okay?’

R U OK? Day is aimed at getting Aussies to talk amongst each other about their wellbeing and this
year’s theme is ‘are they really OK? Ask them today’.

R U OK?’s website offers a range of resources outlining how people can ask the question using the organisation’s four-step method to ask, listen, encourage action and check in, as well as information on
how to prepare for a chat.
