Hello to you all.
This week, we were very positively able to put our club name, as well as Rotary generally, out in the public domain.
I refer to our most pleasant involvement in catering for the City of Greater Bendigo “Ride to Work Day” event, last Wednesday morning. Held in the Civic Gardens, between the library and the Town Hall, club members served up healthy fare to cyclists, some of whom were on their way to work, some were members of the Bendigo Cycle Network, and others were just on a healthy recreational ride.
The CoGB representative at the event, Cr Margaret O’Rourke, spoke of council’s desire to promote Bendigo as a bicycle-friendly city, constantly looking at ways to make it possible to safely cycle around it in order to commute to work or to just enjoy Bendigo’s ambience and attractions.
She was also very complementary about our club's assistance on the day, as were the riders.
This barbecue was the first time we had catered for the event in the past 3 years, as a result of Covid restrictions.
The end result is it was a good event for the City to put on and promote, and good for our club in keeping our name, as well as Rotary generally, in the public consciousness. (Thanks Colleen for the photos - below!)
The Mystery Tour, held last Sunday, was a most enjoyable way to spend a few hours tootling about looking for mysterious clues, objects, and signs in our district.
Who knew before we started the tour that there was a Lions Club
Hall in Sailors’ Gully, or a double baler in Marong (see Ted for a full explanation of the capabilities of this machine), or the street number of a long-ago de-commissioned hotel in Sailors’ Gully Rd, or the connection to RCoBs in Cambridge Cres, White Hills??? Only Linda Barrow, John Cannon and Ned Upton– that’s who!! Congratulations go to Liz and Ted on their skill in navigating the course, and putting the rest of us in the shade ………
Our thanks go to Linda, John and Ned for going to the trouble to arrange the tour, which was huge fun.
A highlight of the day was a very informative talk and video presentation of the Great Stupa by Ian Green, the driver of the project, as well as a most entertaining walk-through of the project by Donna, a volunteer guide.
The Marong Family Hotel was an excellent venue to finish at and to celebrate a most enjoyable day out.
There is a board meeting this coming Tuesday evening, and the result of decisions made will be outlined on Wednesday.
As always, members are encouraged to participate either in person, or via ZOOM, as each meeting is always conducted using the same link as we use at our weekly meetings.

of Adrian and Madeleine, 9 Lena Ct, Strathfieldsaye, commencing at 5pm.
We’re nearly at the end of October, and it’s time to give some thought as to what we may do for our Christmas breakup. Do we want to go to a catered venue, go to the home of a member, have a picnic somewhere? Or
something else? Please give it some thought and let either Ray, Adrian or Cathie know of your idea, as time is running out, particularly if we decide to try to go to a catered venue.
