President’s report

Reminders for the following;

Please remember to book and pay for the upcoming changeover dinner. Toni and Adrian are rather concerned that they will be by themselves!
I have arranged to transport the donated clothing to Donations in Kind (DIK) on Tuesday July 2, leaving from Briar Hill at 8.00am. Several members who have not been to DIK have expressed an interest in coming. There are 3 seats available, just let me know if you will be coming. Thanks to Kevin Reade for the loan of his covered in trailer. With the chance of rain we don’t want the clothes getting damaged.

Director’s reports

Toni also has organised some sample jackets for members to try on prior to purchase if required. It is particularly pleasing to see members in the club colours when undertaking activities. It does show that we are a unified team, so if you don’t have a T shirt, jumper or jacket or hat, please see Toni to order one before our next outing.

Last week’s activities

Gerard quickly took control of the proceedings and in the absence of our guest speaker Ian, had things on track.

With no reports from Directors or from the floor, the six steps lesson plan was quickly adopted. Who is here, what have they been up to and is there any news worth hearing?

Doug Lougoon was called on for an update of what’s happening in the Chinese Association, and as you would expect gave a very concise snapshot of the opportunities for a new CEO and a Manager of the Museum. The resignation of Anita Jack and retirement of Russel Jack will leave huge shoes for the new incumbents to fill. Doug gave a terrific overview of the new opportunities and challenges the organisation will face. With a new strategic plan for the future, plus new designs and concept plans for the expansion of the museum, the new CEO will have their job well and truly cut out.

To paraphrase Doug, Easter was HUGE, 6 functions in 3 days, 350 visitors for a meal on Friday night (a plug for the Lions club was well deserved for their great support and help.

The 2020 Easter Fair will be the 150^th and planning has already commenced with the welcome on Saturday, Awakening on Sunday and the Gala Parade on Monday. Will we be running markets over those days? time will tell.

Ned (Paul) Upton gave a report on the Heathcote on Show event over the long weekend. Ned is now the star of the intro promo to the WIN TV news, filmed whilst undertaking a series of blind tastings using specialised wine glasses. Who would have known about the complexities of different shapes and styles for specific varietals? One Luddite was prompted to ask, does it make any difference with cask wine! I am sure that those present did learn a lot about bouquets, air flow, shape and size. Thanks Ned for a great impromptu talk on all things related to wine and the Heathcote on Show events.

Chris Rankin was then called on for an IT update in his world. As expected Chris was not short on information related to the NBN, 5G, future opportunities for smart phones and crypto currencies. In a few minutes Chris rattled off so much information this scribe could not keep up with what he had to say. It was fascinating and of interest to all of us.

Lightning Reef

Our next event will be a BBQ lunch, again highly anticipated by all of the children and staff.

The proposed dates for next lunches are;

July 19 IWCB Sandwiches (Inner Wheel)

August 9 RCoBS BBQ

September 13 IWCB Sandwiches (Inner Wheel)

October 11 RCoBS BBQ

November 8 IWCB Sandwiches (Inner Wheel)

December 13 RCoBS BBQ

We THINK we will need 6 volunteers on the sandwich roster. When sandwiches are on roster volunteers will be needed from 9.00am until 12.00pm

On BBQ roster we will need a few extra. Times for BBQ roster will be advised at a later date.

Partners of Rotarians are more than welcome to assist.

ALL volunteers MUST have a current WWC card!

I am arranging the first women’s Jamshod dinner. As you know it’s called the Jamshod dinner as Jamshod is a Dari word

for gathering. Bendigo has welcomed around 250 Afghans through the refugee humanitarian program conducted by

Bendigo Community Health Services. The purpose of the dinner is for some Aussie women to meet these amazing and

brave Afghan women and enjoy a traditional meal together. The inaugural event is on June 29 (Saturday) from 6-8 pm

at the Cathedral hall Short St Bendigo.

I appreciate you providing this information on my behalf. Could the women RSVP by COB June 28?
