Last week, John Cannon and Graeme Lynas travelled to the DIK store in Melbourne and brought back 2 pallets (over 1800 garments) of good-quality T-shirts and polo-type shirts for distribution to needy people in our region. Foodshare will be the lead agency to ultimately arrange for the distribution of the clothing, as the organization is in constant contact with various other support services such as the Salvos, Vinnies, MadCow, etc.
Some garments will also go to our local Karen community. No doubt this has the potential to be a very meaningful and continuing project, as we understand there will be further quantities of garments periodically available from DIK for distribution in future.
Thank you, John and Graeme, for what you have done so far.
Also, thanks to all members who supported the Anglicare Foster Parents Xmas BBQ at the Bush Pig Inn site in Eaglehawk. A really worthwhile event. Our club supplies the sausages and bread including the willing volunteers. The Anglicare team and the Foster parents were very appreciative of our inputs.
Last Sunday, we enjoyed our Christmas breakup function at the Marong Family Hotel. Around 30 members and partners enjoyed good company, good food, with lots of laughs and lively conversation on the day. Our thanks go to Barbara Mitchell in particular and the fellowship committee for arranging this very pleasant day.
Early on Thursday morning several of our members helped Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo South Rotary clubs to put on a barbecue breakfast for around 350 City of Greater Bendigo employees. The event was held at the Garden for the Future, off Hamelin St, White Hills, and it was basically for the outdoor staff of the council. The other Rotary clubs arranged all the food and equipment needs while we provided some extra cooking power. Very appreciative COGB staff, and plenty of camaraderie between members of the 3 clubs, made for a most pleasant few hours.
No doubt, we will do it again next year if we are needed – if you’re on a good thing, stick to it …
See you on Wednesday, our last meeting of this year.
