Highlights of Board meeting [Monday July 10, 2017]

Treasurer’s Report: QuickBooks is now operational.

Peter has sent invoices for $125.00 being for mandatory fees and dues,

July 1 – December 31, 2017. I still dream of significant subsidy of mandatory fees and dues. Dream on George.

The Community Support Report from Adrian confirmed that the Timor Leste Knitting Project Shed/Hub is finished

to builder’s satisfaction, and, today, to building inspector’s satisfaction, and an official opening will occur on Thursday October 26^th.

Thank you to Danny O’Brien for donating shelving.

Adrian included comments on communication re Jenny’s Learning Centre at Bendigo Health, which was noted without any resolution.

In addition, Adrian presented a comprehensive board paper re the Christian Medical College Vehore India.

Resolved: That RCoBS support the College by way of a one-off scholarship limited to health care disciplines, requiring,

as is our practice, reports from the awardee. Future boards will have the opportunity to consider annual refreshment, and,

we do have a guest speaker from Vehore on our programme.

A board paper recommending support for DOXA School Bendigo satisfies my 2017/18 theme of Youth and Local.

The board approved a grant of $5,000.00, requesting report after one year from Jim Rolfe and Martin Ruffell.

$15,000 donation to Cyclone Debbie victims:

We’re still waiting for direction from Rotary DG in Queensland

When Martin has the opportunity, the board will welcome a report from the Coffee Project Committee, and

progress with communications at Weeroona College. We did not get a delegate/deputy to Clusters Youth Services

Monday night.

Rotary Australia Compassionate Grant scheme [the Dick Smith $1M]:

President George is talking to Bendigo Community Health Service and Professor Andy Lovett Paediatrics Bendigo Health.

I brought to the board a request from Graeme Lynas to have members ratify our meetings programme.

Referred to Club Services Director.

Changes to Child Safety Standards

The board had invited our Protection Officer Judy Miatke to attend and commence discussions re this challenge. Judy could

not attend. The Changes to Child Safety Standards prompted robust discussion.

On behalf of members, I have sent an email, today July 11, 2017, to the District Governor and District Director of Governance,

requesting:

1] The District Director Governance [David Whiting] email to me all relevant documents for forwarding same to all members;

2] The Assistant Governors Goldfields Clusters invite The District Director Governance [David Whiting] to present

his recommendations to all assembled Goldfields Clusters Rotarians, perhaps at Camp Getaway. This Child Safety issue

is a complex situation, demanding legal advice.

Insurance and Sites Safety:

I have emailed District Insurance Officer requesting details of the insurance cover we all purchase via District dues and fees.

[District insurance premium for 2017/18 estimated at $60,000.00]

I have emailed District Insurance Officer quoting my assumption that our insurers would [surely] insist on mandatory adherence

to all appropriate Occupational Health and Safety Standards on any Rotary event site, with special reference to “working bees”.

No replies to date.

Membership: I harbour an optimistic plan. Watch this space.
