Chairman Rob commenced the proceedings amongst a level of confusion. The whole schedule had been turned upside down and the guest speaker was to be on first. Dr Rohan Hall, Urologist from St John of God hospital, was supported by Ken Petrella who is the Field Marketing Manager for Urology and Pelvic Health. Another member of the team, Steve joined us for the presentation as well.

 

Given the breadth of opportunities for a joke, Rob was well and truly gazumped by Adrian, who pulled out a ripper, which in the context of the morning’s topic had every one wetting themselves.

Thanks to Dr John and Jim, for being in the “know”, for the “second prize in the raffle”. I did think at one stage that we were going to be required to call on the services of Maurice and Dr George. I don’t think that I have ever been to a Rotary meeting with so much laughter.

Rohan, who has been in Bendigo for 5 years, highlighted the fact that Loddon Mallee is not unique, in the context to discuss men’s health. Most of the issues are related to psychology and as Rohan said, from the brain to the belt the main factors are observation and experience in men’s mental and physical health.

 

Rohan then went on to talk about the major issues which can face many men, including erectile dysfunction and the impact that this can have on relationships and the loss of self and identity.

There were many questions with some terrific advice from Cathy. Unfortunately Rohan had to leave early and we didn’t have the chance to get through all of the potential questions.

 

This was a challenging topic and one which cannot be ignored.

As one member said, “who would have thought we would be talking about such things over breakfast AND at Rotary!”

Rohan left behind some brochures and if you have any concerns about the issues raised, please see your GP or specialist, don’t wait.

 

In the resumption of the normal meeting ADG Ron Payne from RC Eaglehawk provided an overview of the role of the ADG and requested if we wish the following to support his reports as well as our promotion.

As Ron said “we are all inclined to hide our light under the bushel”

 

The Flood relief money to the CWA branches at Cloncurry, Julia Creek and Richmond has been processed for payment-Total of $15,000.

Ted reported on the overwhelming amount of interest in the Easter markets-Sold out AND, Bruce and Kev forgot to book a site for the BBQ!!

 

Ray and the RFE team planners have the program finalised in anticipation of the arrival of the team from Canada on March 24^th.

Note; there will be an introductory BBQ tea for the RFE team and hosts at “Briar Hill” on Monday 25^th at 6.30pm. Ray et al will need to know if you will be coming as all members are welcome. It will be like the Christmas lunch, bring a salad or dessert, so please let Toni know! 

 

Paul reported on the new carpets which have been laid at Camp Getaway.

Below is an extract from an email from Patti, re Thursday

 

'We'/'They' completed approx. 2700 sets - jumper/singlet/socks/beanie/toy.  Each set takes a minimum of 14 knitting/sewing hours to complete = 37,800 hours. Costing of wool for each set = $8.10 (donated!!) Cost of 2700 singlets donated (but many purchased) by our knitters. $...... Attending on the day 59 people at average of 4 hours = 236 volunteer hours with 7 ladies dropping off knitting or briefly stopping to discuss patterns/workshops/talks to groups etc. I mentioned to Graeme, the strength of this project is that the majority of work is external to the Club with community members volunteering time/money etc --but--- support the project through the trusted name of Rotary....   Also because we acknowledge their significant contributions and thankyou them at every opportunity.  Thank you for your valuable contribution to the day - I maintain our project is twofold:  the recipients in Timor Leste and also for our knitters, sewers and friends.   Regards Patti Was a good day!!  Regards, off for a very large wine and then bed....Patti
