We enjoyed the inspiring presentation by Mark Anderson of the Rotary Club of Beecroft, NSW. Lots of ideas to move into the future as a club and as Rotary in general.
Thank you to all who assisted at the Swap Meet. Saturday was a very busy day, whilst Sunday was much quieter. Leftover food and milk went to FoodShare and the Salvos. A shame it wasn’t sold, but ultimately, perfectly good food went to two very worthy organizations for further distribution. It will be very interesting to see how successful the event was this year, and how the Swap Meet committee feels it, and Rotary’s involvement, could operate going into the future.
There is an opportunity to also support FoodShare by giving them your empty cans and bottles that they can convert into cash. More details can be found on the COGB “Container Deposit Scheme Bendigo” that shows FoodShare recycling at the top of the page, together with opening times.
Just a reminder that our AGM will be held on Wednesday, 22nd November. Please consider the opportunity to put your hand up now for one of the positions still available. No board = no club, unfortunately.
SAD NEWS – two members resigning
Barbara Mitchell has told us that at the end of June next year, she will be permanently relocating to Melbourne, specifically Williamstown, to be near her family there. For several years, she has been commuting weekly to perform mother and grandmother duties for her family. It’s now time to make this travel come to an end and move to the big smoke.
Barbara joined our club in 2018, and has always been a very active member. She is the owner of a great sense of humour, a terrific chair of our meetings, keen member of our Fellowship Committee, always at barbecues, and always with a smile. Barbara won’t be lost to Rotary entirely, as she intends to rejoin Williamstown Rotary Club, where she and her husband Dowell were members for many years prior to coming to Bendigo. Our loss is Williamstown’s gain – lucky them.
For a number of years, Barbara and Dowell were the much-admired caretakers of Camp Getaway, bringing a new level of professionalism, responsibility and care for patrons of the Camp. The systems and procedures they largely set up have enabled to Camp to continue to operate very well to this day.
Barbara has been a member of Inner Wheel for 35 years, firstly in Melbourne and then Bendigo, and has held very high admin positions along the way. Inner Wheel Bendigo will miss her very much, too, we are sure.
Enjoy her company while she is still here in Bendigo.
Peter Elliott has decided to resign from our club, unfortunately. He and Shirley have the need to slow down somewhat with work commitments, spend more time with children and grandchildren, and just some more time for themselves.
Peter has made a huge contribution to our club ever since he joined us in 2011. He has been our treasurer for many years, always keeping us informed timely of our financial position; drawing up budgets; assembling our reporting requirements; etc.
He has written much of our administration guidelines for proper procedures and rules of operation; and he has been a long-time member of our audit, risk and governance committee, our finance committee, and oversight of our property and assets management. Our club recognized Peter’s great contribution to us, and Rotary in general, with a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2021.
In short, his management, business and accounting skills have been invaluable to our club in helping us to be a properly functioning and well-administered organization. Every club like ours needs a Peter Elliott, and we are very grateful to him for what he has done to help us for as long as he has been able to do so. Thank you very much, Peter and Shirley, and our best wishes for the future.
Christmas cakes and puddings.
As previously flagged, Bendigo South RC is selling Christmas cakes and puddings again this year, as a fundraiser for the Rotary Foundation. If you would like to purchase any, please contact Ray, who is compiling a list to be sent on next month to Bendigo South. Puddings are $20 each, cakes are $22 each (reusable tin) or $20 each (cardboard box).
