Club Activities
THE MEETING ON 13TH JUNE IS TRANSFERRED TO LIGHTNING REEF PRIMARY SCHOOL. 74 HOLMES ROAD BENDIGO
                   7 AM TO 9 AM
 
ONLY THOSE MEMBERS WITH CURRENT WWC CARDS ARE ABLE TO ASSIST. The rest of you get a day off.
 
We will be cooking and serving Bacon and egg rolls to approximately 300.

Thanks to JC for bringing along his guest, the one and only “Cookie”. JC and “Cookie” generously went along to Kangaroo Flat Rotary Club presentation on “Homelessness”.
 
Stan, ever-able-to-cope Hendy, learned that he was chairing the meeting with fifteen minutes to prepare. Easy

And, at the D9800 ChangeOver at Brighton our PE Graeme was presented with a District Citation Award:

Very special thanks to Ray Carrington and Adrian Schoo for preparing the application, following suggestion from Bronwyn Stephens DGE.  Because the Citation applications demanded details for a project with a start and finish dates, this one is in recognition of the funding and construction of the RANCH shed.
 
We all know that the Citation is aimed at The Knitting Project.
 
We’re permitted to use the official logo for this Community Service category, in any Club communications, including our web site, printed material or social media promotions
Community Donation
Ted wants a Pram ???!!
Ted was offering to lodge a board paper to fund a Pram for the Parent and Infant Unit at Bendigo Health, following suggestion from Toni Carrington.  From the floor the resolve was “Yes”.
An anonymous donor has provided the funds already and we shall ask Mark to consider “Donated by Rotary Club Bendigo Sandhurst” livery.

FoodShare Bendigo
Coins and notes excess to cost of guests meals drop into FoodShare tins. I’ve scanned their latest certificate.
And, following a meeting with Cathie Steele, I shall present a board paper recommending we consider donating $3,300 per annum to FoodShare Bendigo to cover the cost of fuel for one vehicle.
In return, that vehicle would be emblazoned with:
“POWERED BY ROTARY CLUB OF BENDIGO SANDHURST”.

Nicole Ferrie is the editor of the Bendigo Advertiser.
 
So, all good things come out of Elmore …
Our very own man of letters and raconteur, Wayne Gregson, convinced a young seventeen year old from a community minded Elmore family to join The Addy as a cadet journalist.
 
Nicole Ferrie following an eclectic media CV or “Experience Evidence” as someone noted the other day, is now the able and proud editor of the Addy.
 
She demonstrated to us not only her astute management and journalist’s skills, but, also, her adept handle on matters digital, meantime preserving that lovely Elmore Girl personality.
 
Our IT guru Chris Rankin could follow all her explanations, referring to Addy readers across the globe, and “up to two hundred thousand readers following interesting stories online”.
 
I still harbour an image of paper-round mates with papers stacked so high on their early morning bike rounds, before school.
 
Nicole says watch this space:
For less than the cost of a cappuccino each week, we may have access to all of the Addy online soon.
Nicole grew up in Elmore, and attended school in Rochester. At the age of 17, Nicole was employed as a cadet journalist with the Bendigo Advertiser -
and has since worked in media across various mediums in different locations, before returning to Bendigo 15 years ago.
Nicole is a multi-award winning journalist, whose work is often acknowledged for helping change community attitudes - in particular around gender
inequality, and raising awareness of violence against women and children.
 
Nicole was last year named the Fairfax Media women of influence as an agenda setter,
and under her leadership the Bendigo Advertiser was named the 2017 Rural Press club of Victoria media outlet of the year.
Nicole is the chair of the Centre for Non violence committee of management, and sits on the board of Annie North Women’s refuge.
Nicole is a member of the Our Watch national media advisory group and sits on the national Mindframe media advisory group.
 
She co-presented a paper at the World conference of women’s shelters in The Hague following her involvement in a project training survivors of violence
to become media advocates, and most recently co-presented papers in New York during sessions surrounding the 2018 United Nations Commission
on the Status of Women. Those papers discussed the backlash that comes with being a woman in the media and human rights defender, and the positive outcomes
that can be achieved for rural and regional women when women and services work together.
 
Nicole lives in Bendigo and has two daughters. 
 
The Future:
        JimRolfe and GraemeLynas are scheduling a Club Forum in July and Jim’s taken up
John Cannon’s suggestion that we tour the Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre cleverly disguised
as the new pool at Kangaroo Flat, before it opens in August.
Pat Sheehan’s suggestion of in-pool swim challenge is languishing on the table.

     I have arranged with Kalianna Special School to run a DreamCricket Clinic at the school on MONDAY 18th JUNE.
 
     START TIME  9.15am;   FINISH approx 1.15pm.
 
      LUNCH BREAK:   11.15 ---  12.00 noon.
 
     It would be great if some Rotarians from your club were available to come and help run the clinic, or just come to watch.
 
     Some may wish to come for some of the time or the whole day?
 
    If anyone can come early in the day, it would be appreciated if they could be at the school just before 9.00am, so that we can run through the activities and what is required.
 
    4 or 5 helpers would be wonderful !!!
 
    Any helpers will need to have their Working with Children Accreditation with them please.

I’ve assisted one member complete a:
“Rotary Youth Volunteer Information and Declaration Form [V7 MAR 2018], otherwise known as “The Working With Children District Form Three”.
It was not nearly as onerous as I had considered, given all the information and discussions.
