Thank you Barb for chairing the club meeting. You did well and had all our support.

Adrian attempted to report (next time without a mic and with a loud voice) with on his presentation at the Girton Grammar assembly and handing over the cheque that our club made available for resources to support the Thailand/Cambodia community work project. He also reported on the recent Goldfields cluster meeting that was held in Rochester and had representation of all clubs and was attended by DN Dale Hoy and AGs Ron Payne and Cliff Downey. Points discussed included:

Fostering Friends of Rotary - formulate expectations and a commitment statement.
Encourage club members to be involved in the upcoming District Conference and submit a list of names.
Each club to commit to one project to support Rochester (e.g., visit, guest speaker).
Centenary project for the cluster. The Karen refugee project was flagged, although there was awareness that it needs to be applicable to Rochester and Echuca-Moama.
150 year Easter Fair next year. A Rotary float in the procession?
The possibility of more clubs supporting the possibility of a La Trobe University Rotaract club.
Promoting the next leadership training on 27 October in Bendigo.
Foundation dinner in 2020, and the possibility of webinars on Foundation.

Lighting Reef Primary School- making 300 rounds of sandwiches with Inner Wheel.
Rotary International President is coming to Australia but will only be visiting clubs in Melbourne and Ballarat. The dinner at Ballarat is open to all Rotarians and will be held at the Mercure hotel in September.
Morning Tea with the DG Grant Hocking last Thursday was well attended by Rotarians from all the Bendigo R C’s.

The guest speaker was Georgia Gribble from the Bendigo Volunteers Resource Centre. Georgia provided information about Be-collective which is an online instrument for organisations to keep records of the volunteer's work. Be-Collective is funded through Health and Community Services and is designed to provide recognition for the tremendous contribution which volunteers make in the community.

Be-Collective keeps track of volunteer hours and helps identify the positive impact and added value which volunteers make. Organisations are often pleasantly surprised by the extent of volunteering which the data shows. The instrument also provides people entering the workforce or those who have been out of work with a record of their volunteering. This information can be included in resumes.

There are fifty two organisations in Bendigo, including Rotary Clubs, which have signed up for Be-Collective. There was some discussion about the potential benefit for our club. Further information can be gained by accessing the website becollective.com. In many ways volunteers are the key way in the community wheel. They help many projects come to fruition and add value to so many others.

The DG Grant Hocking will visit our club next week, and has requested to meet the board after the meeting. Please support the meeting
Secretary Geoff Michell has requested the board members to submit their reports for the next board meeting. The meeting is on Tuesday 30 July at 5pm at St Aiden’s board room (Club members are always welcome to attend)

When Ah Pey came to Bendigo he found it very difficult to go out, to find friends. After three years he gained confidence, because he could understand a bit more English.

The Karen Culture and Social Support Foundation social worker is not alone in having to adjust to a new city, and a new culture.

To ease transition hurdles, the KCSS is hoping to build a house for new Karen arrivals to Bendigo.

New arrivals could live at the house temporarily, while they find a place to live. The community will support them by helping them to understand Australian culture, and how to settle in.

"It will be very helpful for them. Because when they first arrive here, they cannot speak English, so we will provide them assistance or help," Mr Pey said.

The KCSS just needs financial support to build the house. To complete the whole project they need $500,000.

So they're encouraging the Bendigo community to support it. Each brick is $50, but the community is accepting all donations.
