A request to all members from incoming joint presidents Adrian and Ray
We would like to receive, as early as possible please, expressions of interest from members who would like to serve on the board of the club for the year ahead, namely 2023 / 2024.
While all members of the current board are doing a sterling job, we would like to ensure that each and every member has the opportunity now to put their name forward if they are interested in being a board member for next year.
For those members who have not served on the board before, it is not a daunting task, and it brings you right up to speed with everything that is going on in the club, in our cluster, and our district. There is usually a mix of experienced board members and relative newcomers, making for a good range of views and opinions contributing to eventual decisions.
All meetings are very pleasurable, and conducted in an extremely polite and democratic manner.
So, please give it some thought, and contact one of us as soon as reasonably possible to register your interest in any of the following positions.
Welcome again, another unpredictable week, where we need to take gumboots, shorts, sunnies and umbrellas! Weather determines all.
Contact with the tennis club has been restricted due to early closures re weather and conferences. However, we will persist in correcting our IT issues when we can access the facility.
On Monday the BBQ in Rochester with the Cluster was cancelled at the last minute due to the wet weather. They have asked us to support another two, (Friday 28th) and next Monday 31st. Peter Reading is the contact re volunteers, so could you please check your emails re this.
The BBQ at the Bendigo Cup was well attended by our members. A good fellowship day even though we were not in the best position for business and therefore not as productive as we hoped. But it's still great to see people out in the community and advertising for Rotary. A few may have had a winning day, but you need to check with Ted for those results.
As you are all aware the Cluster Clubs have almost daily zoom meetings to see what can be organized to help support Rochester.
They now have a co-ordinator managing the Flood project, Lachlin Cozens a Community Development Officer from the council. He is already arranging services to support the town.
A contractor has been appointed for cleaning.
The plan now is to set up temporary housing at Elmore Event Centre, where they will locate portable units there.
The cluster is still supplying BBQs weekly and some urgent items.

Science and Technology Challenge
On Friday the 21st of October a crew from Bendigo Sandhurst Rotary Club supported the organisers of the Australian final of the Year 10 Schools Engineering and Science Challenge.
Eight schools from across all Australian states competed with up to 34 students per school. It was a very big and very successful event.
The main host club running the event under the careful guidance of the University of Newcastle, was the Rotary Club of Bendigo South. Next year the national finals will be hosted by the E Rotary Club of Sydney.
Our club members were there as supervisors of the student teams that had the exciting challenges of, amongst other things, making a Hovercraft, designing and building a catapult, making a Bionic hand and building a bridge out of wood that could carry “heavy” traffic. All of the tasks were challenging and involved problem solving and teamwork.
Past President Rob, future President Ray and John Harkin had the really interesting job of supervising the students with the Hovercrafts.
We weren’t allowed to help and it had to be the students' own work following the strict guidelines.
I worked with John Cannon supervising the student teams building the artificial hand out of paper straws so that they could pick up objects.
The students were amazingly motivated and were all great to work with. I wish that in my teaching career that I had classes made up of all students like this.
Other members of our club that were supervising groups included Graeme Lynas.
I encourage all members to get involved if we have to opportunity again next year.
