Co-Presidents' report
The La Trobe Uni Health Sciences Tour last week included a guided tour through the health science buildings as well as a nice breakfast and a presentation on the rural focus of the university department. We were also invited become part of a Rural Health Consumer Panel to improve rural health (see photo of the flyer we received below).
A number of issues were discussed at the last RAWCS meeting to support the Rochester community. We will be informed in due course about possible need for working bees and student scholarships.
We are involved in meetings with Lighting Reef PS to possibly address issues such Comet Hill Reserve and upgrading their oval.
Although a few suggestions have been received in relation to Club badge design, Cathie welcomes more ideas on how our badges could look like in the future.
Last but not least, thanks Martin and family for attending the meeting and to bring along Hudson who showed his passion for cricket.

Guest speakers - Hudson Ruffell and Neil Byers
Members were treated to something very special as Hudson Ruffell, 11 years old, recounted his passion and interest in cricket in the context of strong family support and the encouragement and provision offered by his Club, Maiden Gully/Marist which was represented by President Neil Byers.
Hudson has concentrated on all aspects of the game batting, spin bowling, fast bowling, wicketkeeping and fielding. He has accumulated very impressive statistics in all of these. There is rarely a day goes by when Hudson is not out in the backyard nets practising with his bowling machine.
Hudson has had the opportunity for additional coaching under the guidance of former Australian Captain, Graham Yallop. Here he has been able to meet up with two of his heroes and role models, Usman Khawaja and Travis Head. For Hudson his involvement provides much more than the experience of playing cricket. He was very insightful in the way he pointed out the importance of leadership, friendship, patience, dedication and persistence. Cricket provides for him the context for these however they are all so important in life generally.
Neil Byers represents a large cohort of dedicated people in our community who commit to making provision for participation in sport. He stressed the importance of setting high standards of sportsmanship and the creation of a safe place where people can meet socially and support each other. As President of Maiden Gully/Marist Cricket Club for nine years he has worked tirelessly to continually improve facilities and cricket standards. Neil persists in making the case for Maiden Gully/Marist's entry into the Bendigo Cricket Association.
Hudson and Neil's presentation provided a timely reminder about ways in which the values of Rotary are lived out in so many ways in our community. Neil's empathy for families in need and the commitment of the Club to support in areas such as the payment of fees are wonderful examples of small gestures of outreach which help people stay connected and supported.
Members are most grateful for the opportunity to understand another example of goodness, dedication and friendship. Sadly otherwise it may have gone unnoticed. We will keenly follow Hudson's progress.

Save the date - RCoBS Mystery tour!
Members please save Sunday October 15 in your diaries for the RCoBS Magical Mystery Tour!
It will be a fun day out, driving through central Victoria and checking out some mystery destinations.
There will be challenges throughout the day, plus prizes and trophies at the end.
The club is subsidising this, and there will be a small cost for lunch. Numbers needed next month.
