Guest Speaker:
Zahir Azimi and Kaye Graves presented on strengthening the Afghan connection and how grateful they are for supporting this program which is part of the refugee settlement program coordinated by Bendigo Community Health. Most men have a job, which is very important for them. Every Tuesday Zahir runs meetings for the Afghan group, and every month a Jamshod dinner for the man and now also one for the women. These functions are informative and very successful. Guest speakers at these functions present on topics (for example road rules) that help the refugees settling into the community. Other activities that are organised for the group include Futsal, which is indoor football that has modified rules when compared with outdoor football (soccer), and youth camps where children participate in learning activities and through which they can also develop leadership skills. Zahir also thanked for the polo-shirts we made available for the successful team.
Kaye mentioned that Bendigo Community Health also has started a Sudanese choir and theatre group.

An excellent talk it kept this lot quiet....

The raffle was won by Nick Christian. Congratulations Nick.

From Maurice Woodburn...
Just a note to clarify the social event being held at our place on Sat 5th October.
Open to all members and partners to attend.
Location: 11 Regent street Strathfieldsaye. ( off Tannery lane) Commencing between 6pm and 6:30pm.
Please bring along a plate/platter of food to share. Finger food, either hot or cold. Main or sweets. We will be able to keep food warm.
Bring along something to drink also. The whole idea is a social event where members and partners can socialise without any hassles of
being seated and not being able to mingle An idea on numbers closer to the day would be great.

Jokes

A man walks into a bar and orders a drink. Then he notices there are pieces of meat nailed to the ceiling of the bar

so he asks the barman what they are for. The barman replies, "If you can jump up and pull one of them down you

get free beer all night. If you fail, you have to pay the bar £100. Do you want to have a go?"

The man thinks about it for a minute before saying, "Nah, the steaks are too high!"

...........................................................................................................................................................................................

The teacher said to his class one day, "Please stand up, anyone who thinks they're stupid."

Nobody stood up so the teacher said, "I'm sure there are some stupid students in this class!"

At this point Little Johnny stood up.

The teacher said, "Oh Johnny! So you think you're stupid then?"

Little Johnny replied, "No, I just felt bad that you were standing up on your own."

............................................................................................................................................................................................

I went in to a pet shop. I said, “Can I buy a goldfish?” The guy said, “Do you want an aquarium?”

I said, “I don’t care what star sign it is.”

.....................................................................................................................................................................

What do you get when you cross a dyslexic, an insomniac, and an agnostic?

Someone who lays awake at night wondering if there is a dog.

.....................................................................................................................................................................

I couldn’t believe that the highway department called my dad a thief.

But when I got home, all the signs were there.
