Ken Gregson has asked to pass on his and the families greatest gratitude and love for the support that Rotarians and Friends of Rotary have shown to Wayne and Linda over the last 5 months. As Wayne recently commented, “Rotary has changed from formality and obligation to friendship and opportunity”. Thanks to everyone who has supported and assisted Wayne and Linda and represented our club at the memorial service.

Re; the Futsal competition
 
Hi Graeme, 
Thank you for attending the BCHS youth team Futsal Grand Final day. The Afghan and South Sudanese Youth group, all of them are very passionate and love playing Futsal. They played well throughout the Tournament and marked it to the Grand Final. 
We would like to Say thank you so much to The Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst for their support, without of your support at least it was hard for the group to participate in the tournament which they were very interested in. The feedback from participants are, it was fun, learning, meeting new people and making new friends and good for our mental and physical health. 
The Group also requested me to pass their message that they very grateful of Rotary Club of Bendigo Sandhurst for the financial help with the tournament, thank you it won't happened without you guys and looking for our next event.

Another big thank you to Kev, Bruce, Maurice and the team of thousands (a slight exaggeration BUT it was a fantastic roll up) who turned up on a cool night to show what “community service looks like”. Brilliant, well done all.
 
Meeting report
Stan took over the reins again this week in anticipation of being away in the “van” for a while. Thanks Stan for being ready to step in at short notice.
 
Director’s reports
Judy gave an update on Kevin Stevenson and John Langley. We will ensure that we keep in touch and offer any support we can.
 
Ted gave a quick outline of the markets and the outcomes of the debrief held on Tuesday evening, to provide a response back to CoGB and to develop a survey of market stall holders for their retrospective feedback.
 
Toni urged new board members and any Rotarian to attend the District Assembly in Melton on May 26th.
 
Guest Speaker-Dennis Bice 
Dennis joined Be.Bendigo after 41 years with Bendigo Bank and a short stint with AFL Central Victoria. After 13 months as CEO he has now started to bed down some key actions from their 2018-2021 Strategic Plan (see the website link for more information)
Formed from the Chamber of Commerce (1886), to the Bendigo Business Council and Central Victorian Business Network, Be. Bendigo was finally formed in 2015.
It is an independent body, not affiliated with Council, but works in close collaboration with them.( a good example is the new Qantas air service) As a one stop shop for businesses in Bendigo, it prides itself on being a membership based sustainable organisation, which must provide value for its members. With a permanent staff of 2 and another 3 part time, Be. Bendigo has facilitated and conducted over 60 activities during the year to support members. Anything from leadership, financial management and marketing as well as running the Bendigo Business Excellence Awards, Be.Bendigo has developed new roles in how they support businesses.
Recently they have established Grow Bendigo, where  regional opportunities for work, buying local, supporting local disadvantaged young people towards employment and to encourage business to cooperate and support each other. With over 8000 businesses in Bendigo (many single operator or work from home), this is a huge task.
Playing an advocacy role Be.Bendigo asks of local, state, federal and government and agencies to be clear in their objectives and priorities of how they will support local businesses. How does Be.Bendigo influence decision makers and business? With issues on the agenda such as industrial land, freight, power and utility costs, Be.Bendigo sees itself as having a major role in the future of the region.
Dennis then went on to respond to a number of questions from the floor.

Industry Visit California Gully Mechanics Institute (The Ranch)

Our meeting of Wednesday May 29th will be an Industry Visit to The Ranch to hear updates about the knitting project. The address is 8-12 School Street, California Gully. We will meet over breakfast at the usual meeting time 7 AM for 7.30 AM and have the opportunity to look over the facility.
 
Peppergreen Farm Catering will provide breakfast. There will be a choice of an egg and bacon roll or a fruit cup with muesli. Tea/coffee and orange juice will be available. The cost of breakfast is $10.

A Night at the Opera
