The Club Forum this Wednesday will focus on a review of this year's Australia Day celebrations. Peter Rainey will be along to be part of this process. In addition Roxanne Lyon will drop in to express her gratitude on behalf of Anglicare for our support of the Christmas breakup for Foster families.

Industry Visit- Crusoe Reservoir (Wednesday March 22nd 8AM)

This Industry visit follows the interest of members in the history of the supply of water to Bendigo. Some little while ago we had Geoff Russell, the author of "Water for Gold", as our guest. This was followed by a car rally which stopped off at various points of interest along the Coliban Channel. Members will be guided around points of interest by Ranger, Blair Venn, from 8AM until 9AM. Crusoe Reservoir is in Crusoe Road, Kangaroo Flat, on the left coming from Bendigo towards the end of the built up area. There should be sufficient parking in the carpark, however depending on numbers some members may need to park on Crusoe Road.

Members are advised to wear sturdy shoes as we will be walking on some uneven ground. All participants are invited to return to the restaurant section of PepperGreen Farm around 9.30AM for breakfast. Please contact Jim Rolfe (0407554263) if you have any queries.

Guest speaker Jenna Sing - Gobbe Wellness Centre
Jenna is a Registered Nurse and the Cancer Wellness Co-ordinator with Bendigo Health. She completed her graduate year at Kurmala working in the Oncology section of the old hospital. Jenna is proud to be part of the transition to the new hospital which now has a wide range of Oncology services. She heads up a team based in the Gobbe Centre which is located in a heritage building in the grounds of the Anne Caudle Campus. The Centre is named in honour of Alan and Helen Gobbe. It was wonderful to have Helen join our meeting and we thank her for her generous contribution to this facility.

The Oncology Unit, one of the biggest in regional Victoria, serves a large geographic area and offers treatment to over fifty patients each day. The Cancer Wellness Centre offers similar complementary services to those available at the Olivia Newton John Centre in Melbourne. Jenna highlighted the importance of both western medicine and complementary services such as yoga, reflexology and meditation in the holistic treatment of cancer. Under the leadership of people like Rob Blum she believes that Bendigo Health has achieved a healthy respect for the importance of both.

Jenna is also required to maintain a focus on sourcing corporate sponsoring, fundraising and donations to meet the recurrent costs associated with the services of the Centre. Psychology supports including up to five free sessions although they are remotely offered at the moment are a recent addition. Jenna was quite taken by Toni's suggestion that gift vouchers might be another way to support people wanting to access the services of the Centre. Dry July has been a traditional approach used to raise funds.

Jenna highlighted the need to have a broad range of services available because of the many different types of cancer and the many different responses which people have during treatment. Strategies such as contact with cancer survivors in some instances are beneficial but can also be demoralising if the patient's response is very different to that of the survivor. It is fair to say that Jenna is a pioneer in the development of holistic approaches to cancer treatment in Bendigo. We congratulate her on her leadership and thank her for being our guest.
